Things are going well.

I’ve begun to ride stormy on a regular basis and he’s doing sooo well.

He loves to jump, ((:

We both have so much to learn, but we’ll grow together.

He’s wonderful.

He’s nervous about the cows across the street and has trouble focusing while we ride, but it will get better with time.

I rode Stormy for the first time today, about a month earlier than i thought I would, but he was perfect. He’s incredibly green, and incredibly awkward with his body but we’ll fix it with more ground work and dressage basic. Love my horsee (: what a good day.

Day 2:

So when I got out there early this morning he wouldn’t quite let me catch him so instead i walked behind him and clicked a little. Instead of trotting away from me he began to trot in circles around me- he FREE LUNGED IN A PADDOCK FULL OF GRASS. He had his inner ear to me and lunged better than he ever has on the line.

When I finally took my hand down to let him stop, he turned towards me and walked a little closer. Finally he let me halter him and even later he let me tie him up. Ate quite a bit of his breakfast- so thats some progress. (:

Then he let my bridle him and he was totally fine about it. Lunged a little bit and he’s starting to pick up on the basics. He’s getting better every day and more and more aware of whats going on. He even ate horse treats out of my hand today (keep in mind race horses don’t ever really get treats) so it’s good to see he’s starting to open up.

I hate being apart from him, our bond gets stronger every day. (:

Today was my first full day with him and we hit the ground running! He hasn’t been ridden in years and the only time he has been ridden it was to race so it will be quite a while before we ride. He took the bit today for the first time in years, although at first he was quite stubborn- it was a great accomplishment for us both.

Later I lunged him and ran around with him for a little while. He has a little bit of trouble with lunging, he’s not exactly positive what to do. I think it’ll be easier once he’s settled in and there is less to look at so he can focus on his work a little better.

My mom came with me to see him again in the evening and he just stood there and let us love on him. I trimmed up his mane so he looks a little better kept now. (: He is so gentile and sweet. These are the moments I live for, if there is anything more beautiful in this life: God kept it to himself.

I decided to create a blog dedicated to my horse.

I know, it sounds kinda crazy, but I want to remember every triumph and struggle with him- so this is sort of my equestrian diary.

Stormy came home to me yesterday June 4, 2012.

He’s a 16h, 7 year old thoroughbred bay, with a half star on his forehead. Right now he’s a little bit skinny, but soon he’ll have some more muscle on him and look great. (:

Basically, Stormy started out as a race horse- won one races, and only earned about $14,500 in his whole career. His heart just wasn’t in it. About a year and a half ago Stormy was kicked while he was out in the pasture… Since he couldn’t race they were going to throw him away. He was going to be sent to a slaughter house, but was luckily rescued by his recent owner Crystal.

For a year she put time and money into rehabilitating him, and just plain loving on him. That’s when I found him and brought him home for free with great plans for him.

So I guess Our story starts here. (:
